HMA OVERVIEW
What Are Health Maintenance Activities (HMA)?
Health Maintenance Activities are skilled medical tasks that are typically performed by a licensed nurse. However, under Colorado’s IHSS program, these tasks can legally be performed by a trained family caregiver, including a parent, after completing the proper training and certification.
HMA tasks commonly include:
- Tube feeding (enteral nutrition)
- Catheter care and management
- Skilled assistance with ADLs
- Other skilled nursing tasks under IHSS
These are not simple tasks, which is why proper training matters. All for Kids Home Health trains family caregivers to perform HMAs safely, correctly, and in full compliance with Colorado IHSS requirements. When you’re the one who knows your child best, having the right training behind you makes all the difference.
WHY FAMILY CAREGIVERS
A Better Alternative to Traditional Caregiver Services
Most families searching for caregiver services are looking for someone trustworthy, someone who will treat their child with patience and real care. The frustrating reality is that finding a qualified outside caregiver, especially for a child with complex medical needs, is hard. Turnover is high. Consistency is rare. And no one knows your child the way you do.
That’s where All for Kids takes a different approach.
Instead of placing a caregiver in your home, we help you become the caregiver. Colorado’s IHSS program allows parents and family members to serve as paid caregivers for a qualifying child or adult with disabilities. You provide the care. IHSS compensates you for it.
This model offers real advantages over traditional caregiver placement:
- Your child receives care from the person they trust most
- You maintain full control over how care is delivered
- No caregiver turnover or scheduling gaps
- You receive income for work you may already be doing
- Care is consistent, familiar, and home-based
HOW IT WORKS
How the IHSS Process Works
Getting started with IHSS and HMA caregiving in Colorado involves several steps. All for Kids guides you through each one.
- Confirm eligibility. Your child or family member must have a qualifying disability or complex medical need that requires ongoing skilled care at home.
- Apply for IHSS. We help you navigate the Colorado IHSS application process, including documentation, county contacts, and what to expect during the assessment.
- Complete HMA training. If your child needs health maintenance activities, you will complete the required caregiver training through All for Kids. Training is hands-on and tailored to your child’s specific care plan.
- Receive caregiver authorization. Once your training is complete and the care plan is approved, you are authorized as your child’s paid caregiver under IHSS.
- Begin caregiving and receiving payment. You provide care at home according to the approved plan and receive regular compensation through the IHSS program.
- Ongoing compliance and support. All for Kids stays involved, helping you maintain compliance, update care plans as needs change, and troubleshoot any issues with the program.
The process takes time, but you do not have to navigate it alone. Many Denver families have completed this process with our support.

WHY ALL FOR KIDS
Why Denver Families Choose All for Kids Home Health
All for Kids Home Health was founded by Andrea Reitzel, a mother who understands this journey from the inside out. Andrea’s own experience raising a medically complex child taught her how isolating, exhausting, and financially draining it can be to navigate the healthcare and support system alone. She founded All for Kids to be the resource she wished she’d had.
That origin shapes everything about how we work. We are not a large corporate agency filling staffing slots. We are a mission-driven, family-first organization that exists to help caregiving families get the support and recognition they deserve.
Denver families choose All for Kids because:
- We have lived experience, not just clinical training
- We specialize in pediatric home health and IHSS, not general home care
- We hold a 4.9-star reputation built on families who were overwhelmed and are now supported
- We communicate clearly and follow through, which is rare in this space
- We are local to the Denver area and understand Colorado IHSS inside and out
“All for Kids health has improved our family’s life in many ways. As a mother, it has helped me feel validation for the hard work I do for my family. For my daughter, they have gone the extra mile to make sure she is receiving the proper tools, therapies and support she needs to grow. Thank you for that!”
